by Ngozi Nwoke

I do not want to die...until I have faithfully made the most of my talent and cultivated the seed that was placed in me until the last small twig has grown - Kathe Kollwitz. Making a difference is the desire of many people but the question is how to achieve it. You cannot give what you do not have. Building up yourself, increasing your knowledge and acting on it will increase your chances of making impact in your world. This article gives seven important keys you must possess to make impact around you.

7 impactful keys

1. Confidence

The ability to make a difference starts with you having confidence in yourself and your maker (God). When you don't believe in yourself, nobody will believe in you. A wise man said,"Confidence is the backbone of conquerors". Look into God's word (Bible), believe and declare what He says concerning you. God's word is able to build you up - Acts 20:32. God did not make you a mediocre or a failure. You are made to succeed and make impact in your world.

2. Excellence

Making a difference requires that you be a person of excellence. It is like a golden apple in the midst of silver apples. It will make you outstanding and draw men to you. Therefore, build up yourself to excel in the area(s) that you desire to be impactful. Daniel excelled greatly as an administrator. His enemies could not find anything wrong in him except that he worshipped the Almighty God (Daniel 6: 1-5). His excellence commanded the attention of Kings (Daniel 1:19-21) and provoked promotion for him.

3. Love

Nobody cares about what you know until they know how much you care. For you to make a difference you must be a people lover. Human beings are so selfish in nature that any manifestation of love from someone will not go un-noticed. It will always make impact on the recipient and the people around the recipient. Loving people demands some sacrifice on your part. But any show of love from you will always outlive you. For instance, the love of God for mankind, in that He gave His only son Jesus (John 3:16), is still being celebrated centuries after the death and resurrection of Jesus.

4. Joy and excitement

Joy and excitement are contagious. A person who expresses both emotions will always be making a difference wherever he or she is found. A merry heart does good like medicine but a broken heart dries the bones - Proverbs 17:22. You need to learn to be joyful all the time. Many people are already tensed up and bombarded with challenges that they wouldn't want anybody adding to their woes. What they need is a diffuser, which a joyous and exciting person can supply.

5. Integrity

Integrity combined with faithfulness is a powerful force and worthy of great respect- Real Live Preacher. Any success or impact without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. To make a difference requires that you be a person of integrity. This is vital if you want to sustain any impact that you may be privileged to make in your world. Samson's lack of integrity cut short his impact in Israel and philistine. Eventually, his life was cut short too, (Judges 16:1-31).

6. A message

For you to make a difference, you must have a message different from or more convincing and impactful than what others are saying. Human beings are in search of answers to various issues. They will always turn to any direction that looks more promising. Therefore, you need to discover your area of calling and run with it. Jesus came with the message of salvation and it is still speaking till today, (John 12:47)

7. Authentic proof

"Seeing is believing", says the world. A wise man also said that it is only a fool who doubts what he can see. Making a difference demands a tangible proof of your message. When people see the positive impact of your message they surely will imbibe and act on it. In other words, don't just develop a message, develop also proofs of its authenticity.

I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's as unique as a fingerprint - and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service - Oprah Winfrey

In conclusion, it is most proper to desire to make a difference but without the keys above, your dream will remain unrealised.
