Binding the Sea Shore
by Richard L. Provencher

During a campfire holiday
intervals of sun, wind and rain
introduce steamy moisture
to our tree-lined shore
its bouquet
an aroma of pungency, a
mixture of kelp and
fishy parts

crumbled clam shells, hulls
from crabs
and driftwood tidbits
treating our feet
to a smorgasbord of pain.

Much later in the safety
of a proper roof
and warm
bath, we dwell on memories.
