References to Jesus
by Michael Hume

"He said to them, "this is what I told you while I was still with you: everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets and the psalms. Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures." Luke 24:44,45

After reading that passage God began showing me verses dotted around the Old Testament referring to Jesus. It was an interesting voyage of discovery seeing that God had predestined so many things for Jesus so far in advance.Which precise scripture verses Jesus showed his disciples I don't know, but below are some that I've found. God not only spoke of Jesus's life to him but also speaks of our lives through Bible verses. Seek and you will find those for you. Here goes a few about Jesus.

When you ascended on high , you led a host of captives. Psalm 68.18

He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. Psalm 20.20

The LORD said to Moses, "make a snake and put it on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live." Numbers 21.8

They divided my garments and cast lots for my clothing. Psalm 22.18

Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7.4

They will look on the one they have pierced. Zechariah 12.10

Of the ones above, "he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken" from Psalm 20.20 was a personal promise to me as well. It was stored up in my heart. One day my mother was knocked down by a low speed motorist. Shaken, she was taken to hospital, and examined.

I knew in my heart none of her bones broke, before hearing the result because that scripture came to mind as an assurance to me. God had her in mind when he gave me that promise ahead of time.

Be encouraged to listen to God. I hope verses come alive for you and the Bible is a great adventure.
