Visual Aid
by PamFord Davis

Fishermen have earned a reputation for stretching the truth when they tell stories about the big one that got away. They corner us and use the visual aid of outstretched arms to demonstrate the size of the prize catch that broke free from their line or leaped from a net. An avid anglers' missing fish, though possibly a trophy winner may never weigh in as heavy as the storyteller's vivid imagination.

One outstretched his arms not to tell a whopper but to demonstrate limitless power and love. "Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you (Jeremiah 32:17 NIV). Such love could only be revealed with outstretched arms on a cross of crucifixion +. The Master storyteller did not stretch the truth; he offered us the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:6)
