Dark as Night
by PamFord Davis

Mr. Green Jeans may have dressed in green jeans to match his green thumb. I remember him fondly along with the Captain and all his friends. Many children may have later become avid readers, because a love of books began early under the influence of Captain Kangaroo. He daily read stories of adventure and fun to his viewers. How many of you remember "Stone Soup?"

I have never seen a literal green thumb but I have seen the fruits of those who claim them. A heart darkened by sin is not visible to my eye yet I can find a prime example in the life of Jonah. God had the green thumb and created a gourd to shelter the rebellious prophet. After God removed the comfort, darkness of anger controlled his messenger.

The Lord questioned him about his attitude. "Jonah replied, 'I have every right to be angry-angry enough to die (Jonah 5:9b TEV)!" He may have been seeing red of rage but his heart was as dark as night
