Danger Zone
by PamFord Davis Good Samaritans are on the demise; people do not want to take the risk of becoming involved. Witnesses distance themselves from accident or crime victims, ignore their plight and wash their hands of any responsibility. We may feel a twinge of guilt for not trying to help but we rationalize our callousness; we are not heroes. What can we do? We can all do something; we can show we care. My faith in my fellow man is stronger today; there is good news to report and it is traveling fast. TV news channels have carried details and video of a recent accident involving a vehicle and motor cycle; I viewed bystanders gathering to lift the van and free the cyclist. They were determined to pull him to safety; flames did not deter them! Would I risk my life for another or sidestep the flames? "And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing (1 Corinthians 13:3 NKJ)." Love for one another, genuine compassion moves us outside of our comfort zone and into the danger zone.
