Fat Suit
by Melissa Martin

Fat Suit

Living in a fleshy container
Protects her from male attention.

She detests her large breasts
And curses her vagina.

Blanket of adipose tissue
Hides her fear of intimacy.

Her appetite for food and love
Is equally insatiable.

Childhood intruders raped her femininity
Along with her body.

Bullies in elementary school
Solidified her flabby self-image.

High school peers and teachers
Made her feel invisible.

She doesn't vacation at the beach,
Tourists are unkind to obese women.

She shops at Fashion Bug Plus
And dresses in vertical stripes.

Layers of fat
Insulate her sexual hunger.

Food, her comforting lover
Visits often with take-out meals.

She feasts on self-loathing
Along with cake and ice cream.

Melissa writes about the God and human connection and condition.
