Eyes Closed
by Melissa Martin I came searching for spirituality And you fed me destructive doctrine. I came seeking some answers And you fed me legalistic jargon. I came searching for purpose And you fed me damaging theology. I came looking for acceptance And you fed me your mirror image. I came with a sense of fairness for humankind And you fed me discrimination against other denominations. I came with human flaws and defects And you fed me guilt for not being sinless. I came seeking peace of mind And you fed me rules and regulations. I came with blindness for skin color And you fed me prejudice for biracial marriages. I came with love for all of humanity And you fed me abhorrence for gays and lesbians. I came with empathy for pregnant adolescents And you fed me abstinence and anti-abortion abomination dogma. I came with a heart for mercy And you fed me injustice and intolerance. I came looking for an empathic Jesus And you fed me counterfeit religion. I came looking for a pluralistic Jesus And you fed me a white blue-eyed version of you. I came seeking an unconditional God And you fed me provisional salvation. Melissa writes about the God and human connection and condition. Article Source: http://www.faithwriters.com |
