Remembrance Day, Truro, Nova Scotia
by Richard L. Provencher

Young Colin is high
as a mountain on grandpa's
shoulders.

How come that lady's crying?
he asks, staring at
the Cenotaph and all the
people standing

not seeing grandpa turn
tears away.

One day I'll tell you stories,
grandpa answers
about your Great Grandpa
Adelard.

Places marked in stone are
read to the crowd--
Hill 70
Canal-du-Nord
Cambrai
Battle of Britain
Korea and Afghanistan

where Canadians marched for
freedom, grandpa said.

Neato, Colin answers.
