Confusion [Adult Child of an Alcoholic- ACOA]
by Melissa Martin

Growing up:

Truth and lies were interchangeable,
Reality and fantasy resided together.

Half truths-half lies,
Which half is which?

Consistent inconsistencies,
Ordered mayhem.

Topsy-turvy beliefs,
Upside down values.

Crooked rules,
Scheme of confusion.

Bottles of Vodka hidden
Under mommy's bed.

Weekend outings
Driving daddy home from the bars.

Meaningful pretense,
Charade of legitimacy.

Adulthood:

Recreating confusion,
Drinking in anger.

Marrying my father,
Becoming my mother.

Melissa writes about the God and human connection and condition.
