Trenholm(e) Reunion, Cape Tormentine

and yes they came
in a jumble, in cars
and vans and trailers,
even an old bus
with tents and such
smiling with grins and

staring in wonder, the
Blacklocks, Provenchers,
Estabrooks, Ogdens,
and Allens melting into
one large family

reunion time, the first
they say
haven't seen this one or
that one in 20 years or so,
gosh they've changed.

Amid the noise and blabber
of hugs and squeals,
amongst food and drink, singing
and dancing, picture-taking
children speed off for
clam-digging in Northumberland's
tidal wake, sandy bars
far as eyes can see
oh these cousins,
all the fuss, expectations

while in a nearby corner young
Nathan's alone, and eight years old
playing soccer ball within the
blush of it all and he's
having a ball
