Pride
by Melissa Martin

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18. (NIV)

Satan's great sin
Came from pride deep within.

"Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor." Ezekiel 28:17 (NIV)

Heart full of pride
Satan schemed and he lied.

A murderer and the father of lies. John 8:44

I am more clever than all!
Then Satan took a great fall.

Satan is full of wisdom. Ezekiel 28:12
"How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn!" Isaiah 14:12 (ESV)

A sinless Eve
Satan chose to deceive.

"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Genesis 3:5 (NIV)

With pride in the way
Eve chose to disobey.

The spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Ephesians 2:2

With eyes opened wide
Adam drank in his pride.

"When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned." Romans 5:12 (NLT)

Satan did not want to be like God. Satan wanted to be God.
