A Long Term Care Facility
by Richard L. Provencher

How great Thou art
a mother whispers His name
His presence remembered
she knows she'll be going home soon.

Ears listening, eyes fixated
on the overhead light
green dress impacting the corridor

wheel chairs at attention in rows
scratches her leg as daily exercise

tummy seems full
dinner was peas,
chicken and potatoes, lettuce
was good too
and bread, with dessert of ice
cream, a cherry on top, red
like the setting sun.

2011 Richard L. Provencher
