Christmas Poem
by Ken John

As days draw in and nights begin to extend out in shadowy frost and snow,
Christmas lights and snowmen, even carps and carp fishermen, all get busier by the day.
Tree finding outings,
and decorating with shouting; family time and cheerful rejoicing.
Students flung far, bus back or by car, arrive home with bagged presents of exotic origin.
So fly to your family at this time,
or train your heart in, to enjoy a fine welcoming.
All kinds and all kith and all kin, have a place for rejoicing when Christmas comes hurrying!

Snowfall, sparkling like diamonds lies on pine tops;
And indoors, twelve dishes, prepared with red wine pops.
All happy and warm, the log fires crackle with smoky awareness
Of new dreams and old ones.

Soul days, holy day, holiday. Red letter day, Christmas day.
Children tear at and grannies tear at
Presents all kindly flung out from under the tree.
The love spread, delight on!
A fine day for feasting and being One - happy day!

And before beginning, break wafer with greeting and wishing all well,
With a peck on the cheek in loving affection.
A time for reflecting and recalling bright memories.
All regret brought for remedy, the past to revise,
The future spread wide from the close of the year and the ushering in.

All things delicious, decided, uncontentious.
We thank You, Our God, for all you've made possible,
for striking this note anew, of fresh and joyous news!
Of happiness stored up, fresh and new power;
Light bearing,
To go forth in daily walking,
Sharing bright optimism!
