Cries of Humanity
by Melissa Martin

Listen. Do you hear?

Each voice crying out.
Each voice crying out for something.

Listen. Do you hear?

Each voice
like each drop of water
merging together
to form a flood of tears.

Listen. Do you hear?

Each cry belongs to a person
created in God's image.
Each cry is heard by God.

Listen. Do you hear?

The cries of people
echo in God's ears.
The cry of humanity
reaches God's mercy seat.

Listen. Do you hear?

Voices of all languages
cry out for something.
Different dialects
but the same human cry.

Listen. Do you hear?

My own self-centeredness has drowned out the cries of humanity, the cries of individuals in my neighborhood, in my community, in my city, in my state, in my country, in the world. Lord, open my ears again to hear the cries of your people, the cries of my people.

Listen. Do you hear?

Melissa writes about the God and human connection and condition.
