Upside movie
by Dana Chaffin

Upside is now available on dvd at most Christian bookstores and at www.upsidemovie.com. This is a faith based film that reminds viewers that life is all about how you look at it. Upside is an inspiring story of how a lacrosse accident turned one young mans life upside down. The remarkable part of the movie is what he learns about himself and about seeing his world from a different point of view.

Upside is the story of Solomon White (Randall Bentley), a high school senior with a bright future. Solomon has what most teenagers think they want a hot car, nice things, & a reputation for being popular. He is the star player on his school's lacrosse team with several college scouts looking to give him scholarships. His mom has his future all figured out if he will do everything according to her plan he will be successful (in her eyes). Her main goal is for him not to turn out like his father. Solomon's coach has his college lacrosse plans figured out too. The coach puts a little extra effort into making sure Solomon gets the scouts attention. His so called girlfriend has his spare time planned out for him. Now with his vision problems, things are not going as everyone planned. At a learning to cope with vision impairment class he meets Wren (Leah Sims), a feisty blind girl. Solomon sees Wren as a strong girl and not afraid of anything even with being totally blind. He wants to learn how to be as comfortable with his ordeal as she seems to be with her disability. Solomon learns that her strength is not her own, but God' strength. She believes that she is never alone in her blindness because she has God with her. Wren's faith gets Solomon thinking about the man he wants to be, not who his mom or coach want him to be. You will have to watch the film for yourself to find out if Solomon gets his life and vision straightened out.

Upside is a great film for teens, parents of teens and youth groups. Like Solomon, teens today are facing a lot of tough decisions and pressures. This film might shed light and remind parents how hard these situations can be on teens. Also this film shows teens that even though they must face these situations, with God all things are possible. The movie's website www.upsidemovie.com also has an awesome study guide that viewers can download.
