Life Before Cell-Phones
by Deborah Ann Belka

Homes were different,
not so long ago
everyone took the time
to stop and say hello.

Dad went to work,
everyday eight to five
mom stayed at home
to flourish and to thrive.

She made breakfast,
served it at the table
all gave thanks to God
for each and every staple.

Off to the school bus,
the children all went
and if they had to walk
there was no argument.

They bowed their heads,
said their morning prayers
and to God and their country
their allegiance theyd swear.

When school time was over,
there was homework to be done
and when daddy got home
he played ball with his son.

Mom and her daughter,
prepared the family supper
when they were all finished
the children cleared up the clutter.

Everyone gathered,
after the dishes were through
to talk about their day
because that's what families do!

Off to bed they would go,
mom still tucked them all in
and she listened to her children
confess to God their sin.

Today life is different,
in our homes
now that everyone has
their own cell-phones!
