It's My Cross to Bear
by Deborah Ann Belka

This old man must go away,
the new one I've got to put on
I need to look to the cross
so to my own I'll be drawn.

I've got to die to my old self,
for it is not I, who now lives
I've got to follow after Jesus
to the new life that He gives.

I've got to get rid of this flesh,
and all the things that I crave
I've got to bury this old man
and leave my sins in the grave.

I've got to reject all evil things,
any desire that leads to lust
I've got to lose this corrupt life
and leave my sins in the dust.

I've got to keep my eternal soul,
and lose this greedy, earthly life
for like a vapor it will vanish
and I'll be facing a hellish strife.

I've got to deny this old man,
It's my cross that I need to bear
I've got to follow hard after Jesus
and this new man I must wear!

Luke 14:27

"And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and
come after me, cannot be my disciple."
