Spider verses Man
by Dennis Bazzell

You can tear down a spider's web
Thinking your situation has improved.
But the spider has infinite patience
As another day will prove

In the human range of emotions
The pendulum swings between extremes
The spider seems to be nothing more
Than an eight legged machine

You are a more complex creation,
Than the spider who never quits.
You are hampered by feelings,
That drains your eagerness.

You could kill the spider,
That's the reasonable thing to do.
The spider doesn't reason
He just starts the job anew.

The spider does not seem to know
His persistence could get him killed.
He thinks it's just a battle
Of who has the strongest will.

The question is not
What will the spider do?
But will you use your cerebral cortex
Just a time or two

The flexibility of a spider
With a brain that can adjust
Keeps the little fellow
From making such a mess

As consistent as a spider
That's what I want to be
I will keep that in mind
As I write his eulogy.
