The Solider and His Demon
by Deborah Ann Belka

A dusty book sits in the corner,
tattered pages, worn and thin
each chapter must sadly end
before a new one can begin.

Inside the pages is a familiar tale,
of a soldier who fought so brave
the saga tells of battles lost . . .
not victories taken to the grave.

Every story has an evil enemy,
that the good guy needs to fight
in the end everyone anticipates
the bad guy will see the light.

This story is about a soldier,
who fought his war within
the bad guy was the demon
who took control of him therein.

This demon was malicious,
he never gave up the chase
the sting of his wickedness
was dug into the soldiers face.

The demon grew more mighty,
he knew just where to look
the anguish and the suffering
had the solider on his hook.

The soldier fought so hard,
he tried everything he could
but the demon was persistent
always ready to do no good.

The soldier could not bear it,
evil was everywhere he turned
so the demon took his victim
and the solider never learned.

This story is about a warrior,
addicted to drugs and pills
fighting against the powers
of the demons relentless will.

A dusty book sits in the corner,
tattered pages, worn and thin
but it could have another ending
if every addict would let God in!
