Strip Search

Strip-searching by airline officials is humiliating. Today we hear shocking stories of little old ladies forced to bear all, due to strict rules put in place following terrorist attacks. I can only imagine how embarrassing and stressful such invasions of privacy can be to those who are innocent of all infractions.

Jesus was perfectly innocent. "Then Pilate set Barabbas free. And he told some soldiers to beat Jesus with whips. Then he handed him over to the soldiers to be killed on a cross. Then Pilate's soldiers took Jesus into the governor's palace. All the soldiers gathered around him. They took off Jesus' clothes and put a red robe on him (Matthew 27:26 ERV)."

They stripped Jesus of decency, putting him to open shame yet the robe of mockery represented a garment to cover the sins of man. A red robe hung upon wounded flesh as Jesus' blood flowed beneath to provide atonement for our sins. "Sins cannot be forgiven without a blood sacrifice (Hebrews 9:22b ERV)."
