Dust Bunnies Forever
by Donald Mehl

Have you ever taken the time to observe the habits of dust bunnies? If you have done that, then you know they are truly amazing creatures. Also, they are not likely to appear on the endangered species list any time soon.

Dust bunnies are gregarious critters with a highly developed herding instinct. You will often find several of them gathered together in areas that offer some protection from intruders bent on destroying them. However, when an outside invasion of a bunny herd happens, they will quickly scatter like the wind to avoid capture.

The ones that have not yet joined a herd will quietly roam an area until another loner dust bunny is located. Then, they will do...well...that which bunnies are known to do. Almost overnight a batch of frisky baby bunnies will be there to enjoy life with mom and dad. Thus, a new herd of dust bunnies will have begun.

I haven't discovered yet what the babies eat, but they seem to grow faster than weeds. No matter what they consume, it apparently has no bearing on their weight. Although the adults appear roly-poly, any weight gain from baby to adulthood is immeasurable.

Attempts to eradicate the species have proven unsuccessful. An effective working trap has not yet been engineered and constructed, nor, has a "bunny-be-gone" spray been developed. Therefore, the dust bunny population will not only continue to survive, but will increase rapidly in spite of man's best efforts to control them.

Actually, they aren't all that bad...and they don't make much noise, either. Besides, dust bunnies might be around forever, so we better get used to them.

During retirement, my prayer is that I might serve the Lord by sharing the Gospel through my writing. As the Lord leads, my work will inform, challenge and encourage. I also enjoy Biblical theme woodcarving, Bible studies and Christian music. Watch, pray and keep looking up!
