CONQUERED DEATH AND WON
by Gayle McMillan

I watched him fade slowly from this life
Waiting at death's door
Drawing a shallow breath
Desiring dignity, little more
Death is not our friend, I cried
Why does he have to die?
I've never understood
But filled with questions, Why?
I've heard all the answers
It doesn't take the pain
It seems that life's too short
And all is lived in vain
Then SORROW took my hand
She lead me through my grief
I could face another death, I said
If separation were but brief
Then FAITH whispered softly
Take courage child, theres hope
FAITHFULNESS embraced me
And taught me how to cope
WISDOM looked me straight in the eye
And said; He's in a better place!
Don't be filled with sad despair
Wipe those tears from you're face
JOY broke through my sadness
And said; Life has just begun
He's learned all of life's lessons
And he's conquered death and won.
