Mommy's Sweet Little Sheep
by Deborah Ann Belka

Demands knocking on the door,
in the early morning hours . . .
needing drinks, something to eat
zapping mommy's sleep and power.

Toasting, pouring, filling cups,
hungry baby begins to scream
washer started, dryer going, folding never!
Welcome to mommy's daily chaotic theme.

Feeling tired, needing coffee,
breakfast strewed across the kitchen floor
little boys jumping, running, shrieking . . .
naked out the front room door!

Washing, scrubbing, water running,
dishes piling high ~ higher in the sink
dirty diapers, dirty hampers, dirty hands
mommy's sanity always tested to the brink.

Shopping, stopping, going crazy,
with three little rascals in mommy's tow
fighting, crying, yelling ~ Silence Now!
Mommy's temper starts to boil and blow.

Stashing, storing, putting away,
lunchtime madness nearly here . . .
paying bills, wiping spills
naptime cries ~ mommy prays to hear.

Dinner planning, making, baking,
playtime promises, park time bliss
running, jumping, falling down
two little knees that need mommy's kiss.

Daddy working, coming home soon,
six little feet ~ eagerly wait to greet
act as if they've not been a problem
for daddy they are ~ angle sweet.

Daddy's home, gives out love and hugs,
asks mommy dear ~ how was her day
wild, crazy, frantic, hectic . . . . name it!
Daddy knows he best, stay out of her way.

Three little roaring, howling tigers,
now sleeping like sweet little sheep
mommy thanks God for her blessings . . .
and for the peace and quiet while they sleep!
