Widows and Waifs
by PamFord Davis

God watches over widows and waifs. He is their protector, and calls us to join the watch. From, embryo to eternity, each life is sacred. "You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to Me, and I will certainly hear their cry (Exodus 22:22-23 HCS)."

Even death cannot silence cries for justice. "Then the Lord said to Cain, 'Where is your brother Abel?' 'I don't know,' he replied. Am I my brother's keeper?' Then He said, 'What have you done? Your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground (Genesis 4:9-10 HCS)!"

God heeded the cries, cursed Cain, and sentenced him to banishment. We may stop-up our ears to cries of the oppressed, turn away in apathy; yet, we are all accountable to God. He not only hears cries of widows and waifs; He speaks up in their defense. It all stems from two four letter words love and life.
