Here Comes the Groom
by PamFord Davis

In today's wedding ceremonies, the bride is the center of attraction. From the moment of formal engagement announcement, to throwing the rice, people shower all their attention on the bride. Her wish is their command. The groom stands in the shadows, and surfaces only when beckoned by those planning the wedding arrangements.

In Jesus' day, the wedding party awaited arrival of the groom. "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut (Matthew 25:10 NIV)." Those unprepared missed their opportunity.

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour (John 25:13 NIV)." Jesus, the groom, will return to receive his bride, the church. The marriage of the Lamb is sacred. The wedding march is wafting through the heavens. Soon, we will witness the Lord in all his glory. Here comes the groom!
