Listening to the Spirit of God
by Gregory Winfield

Have you ever been prompted to speak to someone about Jesus but shied away from the opportunity because you felt you didn't know enough scripture to support what you believe? I think we've all been there at some point. But what's great is that God knew what you knew (and what you didn't know) when he told you to go over and speak to the person. All God needs is a willing vessel and someone willing to step out in faith.

Tonight is movie night at our house and the movie of choice is the Bourne Identity. The premise of the movie is that the main character wakes up in a state of confusion, not knowing who he is or where he is. But what becomes apparent early on in the movie is that the guy knows how to fight! When he's threatened by police or military personnel, his body springs into action and fights off multiple attackers. He obviously has been trained, but he has no recollection of how or when he was trained.

John 14:26 - But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remberance, whatsoever I have said unto you. KJV.

In most instances when you feel the urge to speak to someone about Jesus, it's not because of what you know. It's because for whatever reason, God is choosing to share His love with someone through you. There may be some intangibles involved that you don't know about. Maybe you just lost a loved one recently and the person you're being prompted to approach has lost a loved one recently as well, and God knows the person will be more receptive to you than to someone else. There could be a myriad of different reasons why God is choosing to use you at that moment.

Trust the Lord when these opportunities arise. All you need to do is listen to the Spirit of God then open your mouth and simply say, "Hello". Just break the ice and see where God takes the conversation. Let Him do the ministering and allow Him to take you along for the ride. The creator of heaven and earth lives within you, so there's no shortage when it comes to wisdom to draw from. All He needs from you is to be the vessel.
