Isaiah 2:3
by Don Costello

Isaiah 2:3

And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

1. "And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths"

a. These are the Gentile nations of the earth including the church.

1). Revelation 7:9, 10 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

2). Zechariah 2:10, 11 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

b. Jeremiah and other prophets foretold that the Gentiles would come to worship the One True God.

1). Jeremiah 16:19-21 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?
Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.

2). References are found in Psalms 18:49; Deuteronomy 3243; Psalms 117:1 and Isaiah 11:1.

c. The Apostle Paul wrote that the fulfillment of those writings was the New Covenant through Jesus Christ.

1). Romans 15:8-12 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises unto the fathers:
And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.
And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

d. After the return of Christ, everyone who is living will submit themselves to Christ Jesus either willingly or by force. During the Millennial reign of Christ, all will go to Jerusalem and worship Him. The ones in our text from Isaiah 2:3 will surelybe the ones who have submitted themselves to Him willingly and will rejoice to go to Jerusalem to receive the teaching of His ways and rejoice to walk in His paths.

2. "for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem."

a. Right now we are in the times of the Gentiles, this is the time when individual Gentile governments have sovereignty over themselves. They have supreme independent authority to govern themselves. In the United States, no other nation dictates to us what we can or cannot do within our borders. Our laws come forth from at least four spheres of jurisdiction. On the Federal level Washington D. C. On the state level our laws come forth from the individual state capitals. There are also County ordinances and City ordinances. Likewise in other nations, depending on what form of government they have, they govern themselves. The laws governing France come from the governing body in Paris. The laws governing England, come from the governing body in London. During the Millennial reign of Christ Jesus, he will be the supreme ruler over all the earth, and the individual sovereignty of nations will be submissive to Christ Jesus.

1). Psalm 22:27 "All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations.

b. During the times of the Gentiles the laws of the governments come out from their respective capitals, Washington D.C; London, England; and so on. During the Millennial reign of Christ, the laws will go forth from Jerusalem. This is backed up by an almost identical passage from Micah.

1). Micah 4:1-2 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
