A Better Tourist Center
by Olawale Ogunsola

There are so many tourist centers world-wide. Some of them are centuries old, some are new while new ones are developed. Each of the centers has its regular visitors depending on interests, closeness of the center and the pockets of individuals.
Each Tourist Center is maintained to attract and satisfy the needs and expectations of the visitors. Comfort and pleasure are, most of the times, the pursuit of those who are involved, the management and the tourists. The following words say a lot,
'Tourism is the act of travel for the purpose of not only recreation, but also the provision of services for this act. It might occupy local services such as entertainment, accommodation, and catering for tourists....
'Taste of Miami'. The Third Annual Taste of Miami Beach Convention Center on Saturday, January 14, will feature at least ten of the city's hottest restaurants and dozens of chefs and culinary experts in the world.'
This is typical of most tourist centers. Tourism has many benefits to the management of these centers, the visitors, the local community and the government of the country hosting these centers.
It involves, 'eating, drinking, dancing and merry-making' in general. This is good for the satisfaction of the flesh- the one quarter of every man.
As much as tourism is concerned, its benefits must not be the reasons you are alive. Anyone who lives for pleasure only is dead while he is alive.
The Master of the Universe (Jesus Christ) warns,
"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body,
what you will put on.
Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?...
Therefore do not worry, saying,
'what shall we eat?' or 'what shall we drink?' or what shall we wear?' " Matthew 6:25, 31.
This is in line with the recommended Better Tourist Center by the Preacher, the son of David, king of Jerusalem. He recommends,
"Better to go to the house of mourning
Than to go to the house of feasting,
For that is the end of all men;
And the living will take it to heart.
Sorrow is better than laughter,
For by a sad countenance the heart
is made better,
The heart of the wise is in the house
of mourning,
But the heart of fools is in the house
of mirth." Ecclesiastes7:2-4
Note these about The Better Tourist Center:
1. It is reserved for the wise. Only wise peopie go there.
2. It takes care of everybody's interest.
3. It costs nothing to get there in most cases because it's always near.
4. It makes every tourist to be sober minded.
5. No matter what happens, it reminds everyone of the end.
6. It calls everyone's attention to where one has come from and possibly think of what one must do to have a glorious end.
7. You will see the powerlessness of the mighty.
8. You will agree with the Preacher that "Vanity of vanity, all is vanity". Ecclesiastes 1:1. He concludes
"Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them.
I did not withhold my heart from
any pleasure,
For my heart rejoiced in all my
labor;
And this was my reward from
my labor...
And indeed all was vanity and
grasping for the wind.
There was no profit under the sun."
Therefore, as from today, be a regular tourist in a Better Tourist Center. You'll be able to hold loosely 'to the things of the world and tightly to the things of heaven'.
Stay blessed and rapturable.
