God In The Mirror
by Lewis E. Thomas

I stood and I gazed at my face in the mirror
The lines and wrinkles confirmed that death was drawing nearer.

The reflection stared back hard, as if it were not really me
Those eyes were not mine; so who's could they be?

There was someone behind my face, peering through my eyes
From a dimension beyond, where they never tell lies.

My reflection mimicked all of my movements with care
All except for that sharp, heart piercing stare.

It was a stare of Love from a realm beyond the grave
It had the power to kill and the power to save!

Somehow I knew they were the eyes of God
Heart-broken over the path that I had trod.

They pleaded with me, without saying a word
They spoke things wonderful that I had never heard!

They spoke of a saviour called Jesus Christ
And how he had paid such a terrible price!

I dropped to my knees before the looking glass
I begged God to forgive me for such a bad past.

The mirror shimmered with lights that began to swirl
Then a doorway opened to the spiritual world.

Jesus stepped forth from the other side
He put his arms around me as we both cried.

I stood up and looked into the mirror again
I saw a brand-new man delivered from sin!
