House of Prayer
by Lewis E. Thomas

The old house still stood where we had all been raised
As I looked upon it it brought back my yesterdays.

I remembered mama in the kitchen, the smell of her apple pie
The time when grandma hugged me and told me not to cry.

I opened the old front door and when I stepped inside
I saw Daddy's Holy Bible that he had read with pride.

I slowly picked it up then I blew away the dust
To read it every day with Daddy was a must!

I remember the times when we all knelt down in prayer
I remembered how God's Holy Spirit had always met us there.

I sat in Daddy's old rocker, I rocked the hours away
Then I got on my knees and I began to pray!

I thanked God for what I learned back in Sunday School
I thanked God for parents who taught us The Golden Rule!

I thanked God for the times my family got to share
I thanked God most of all for the times we shared in Prayer.
