I Run to The Light
by Lewis E. Thomas

Lost in darkness, in the distance something glows bright
My soul cries within, "You must reach that light!"

In this dark tunnel the light is so dim
Why did I ever stray away from Him?

I once walked with Him in the morning light
We were so close and life was so bright!

I stumble in the darkness back toward The Light
Satan close behind me my heart filled with fright!

Demon Destroyers pursue me I run fast straight ahead!
Should they catch me I know I'll be dead!

I strayed into the darkness listening to a lie
Lord, "Help me run fast! Please don't let me die!"

I stumble and fall in the light so dim
I know I'll be safe when I reach Him!

I hear footsteps behind me; I quicken my pace!
This is one time I must when the race!

Hideous growls and screams now echo on the wall
Lord, "Guide my steps! Please don't let me fall!"

The Light is much larger now, "I'm almost there!"
Heavy breathing behind me! "It sounds like a bear!"

"I've made it!" I burst forth into The Light!
God's arms are outstretched; He's shinning so bright!

Jesus pulls me close, puts me behind His shield
He commands Satan to, "Come forth and kneel!"

Jesus said, "I love you and forgive all your sin!"
I cried, "Lord, I'll never, ever leave you again!"
