If Jesus Came Today
by Lewis E. Thomas What if Jesus Christ should come by your house? Would you run around frantic like a frightened little mouse? Would you be scared to let the Dear Savior in? For fear of things that would reveal all your sin? Would you offer Him the magazines you always read? And pray He doesn't see your heart filled with greed? Would you talk to Him like one of your pals? Tell Him a dirty joke about one of the gals? Would you rush about wildly throwing things under the rug? And try to make things appear as cozy as a bug? If Jesus came to you suddenly out of the blue It would be interesting to see what you'd do! Would your Bible be open or covered heavily with dust? Would he find your heart clean or polluted with lust? Would you say, "Please stay as long as you will?" Or wish Him back on His cross at Golgotha's Hill? Would you have to stop doing what you usually do? If Jesus came to spend some time with you? Could your friends stay or would they have to leave? Would your heart rejoice or would it suddenly grieve? Would you embrace Jesus counting Him worth more than gold? Or hope He wouldn't notice the things that you'd stole? One of these days you'll see Jesus face to face While your body lies in a casket shrouded with lace. After that last breath I wonder what you'll do?
