Love Locked Away
by Lewis E. Thomas

A gift for you and a gift for me
Large gifts and small gifts lie under the tree.
A gift for Jack and a gift for Gill
A truck and doll to bring a Christmas thrill.
Gifts are nice but gifts don't matter much
If the hand that gives has no loving touch.
The gift that I need is not under the tree
It's locked in your heart and you hold the key.
For me, one gift this Christmas will do
Take my hand and say "I love you!"
My soul is weary of the faults you find
Sometimes I wish I'd been born in another time.
If you want to give a special gift to me
Take my faults and cast them into the sea.
Just give me a hug and sometimes a kiss
When we're apart let me know I was missed!
When I fail as a husband and a man
Offer your arms and a loving hand.
Unkind words fly like darts to the soul
Though you are young they make you feel old.
Let us give each other the gift of love
Let us be as gentle as a dove.
You know, Love is the greatest gift for sure!
You can give love even though you are poor.
A most simple gift would be treasured for life
When received from the hand of a loving wife.
Please use kind words, be gentle as a dove
I am your man and I need your love!
Jesus there is one gift that would really be grand
To hear my wife say" I'm glad you're my man!"
