One Day!
by Lewis E. Thomas

Life is full of pain and struggles all along the way
I don't think I could make it if I did not daily pray.

The Fall in the Garden brought about by Adam and Eve
Has caused untold suffering and all mankind to grieve.

I watched my cousin Clyde recently slowly fading away
I could not stop Clyde's death no matter how hard I prayed!

We are here on this earth for a few moments in time
I hope that God will touch you with this simple rhyme.

Sometimes I envy dead Saints whose problems are no more
I wish that I stood with them on God's Heavenly Shore.

One day my time will come to my final hour and last breath
I hope God will count me to have faithfully passed His Test.

When Death comes to take me I will feel a warm embrace
As God's Angels lift me up and take me to a better place.

I love to live life but sometimes those "Valleys of Dread"
Cause me to grieve and actually "Envy" the dead.

One day I'll meet Jesus and experience joys untold!
One day I'll walk with Clyde on Heaven's Streets of Gold!
