The Empty Witness
by Lewis E. Thomas I stood before God at His Judgment under His piercing stare "Evidence against you is clear!" and God pointed to an empty chair. "God, how can an empty chair be a witness against me here? "Then my conscience told my heart why I had reason to fear!" "This empty chair sat next to you as you worshiped in My House" "It declares that you are an unprofitable and very unfruitful louse!" "It says you never tried to fill it with lost souls that you knew!" "That they might learn about Jesus and start their life anew!" "The empty chair claims you are guilty of repetitive bloody sin" "That you shirked your duty to fill it time and time again!" "The empty chair has no mouth or voice to speak per say" "Yet, it is speaking volumes against you here on Judgment Day!" This rhyme closes with a question that we should consider well Will we let an empty witness condemn our soul to Hell? Next time you're in church and see an empty chair or pew Heaven is watching to see if you fill it with someone new. Lewis E.
