WHEN I WAS SEVEN
by Lewis E. Thomas

When I was a child of seven
I heard about a place called Heaven.

I told Mama I wanted to go
Where their garments are whiter than snow.

So I knelt down beside my bed
And I humbly bowed my head.

I softly asked the Lord above
To fill me with His love.

He forgave me of all my sin
And made me feel clean within.

God filled me with His Spirit
His voice I always hear it.

By and by I have grown older
When I pray now I am bolder.

But I'll never forget the day
When I first knelt down to pray.

When at the age of seven
God wrote my name in Heaven!
