LORD I'M NOT WORTHY
by Lewis E. Thomas

Lord I'm not worthy of Calvary
Of your precious blood you shed for me.

I'm not worthy of those nails in your hands
For I was a sinner, an unrighteous man.

I'm not worthy of those nails in your feet
For I was a liar and I was a cheat!

I'm not worthy of the shame you knew
As the sky turned black and was no more blue.

I'm not worthy of the cross you bore
For I was a pimp and I was a whore.

A crown of thorns was placed on your head
We pressed it down until your blood ran red.

I'm not worthy of the beating in Pilate's Hall
Of those crimson stripes that healed us all!

As they screamed outside "Let's crucify Him!"
You never once stopped loving them!

I'm not worthy of the mocking you took
For I was a pervert, I was a crook.

I'm not worthy of the sweat that became blood
For I was a drunkard and I was a crud.

I'm not worthy of those tired weary feet
As you started your mission and began to preach.

I'm not worthy of the Robe and Crown
That you left in Heaven as you came down.

To be born in a stable outside the Inn
That you might save me from my sin!

I'll never be worthy for this I see
Of the price you paid at Calvary!

I thank you so much for saving my soul
You gave me something more precious than gold!

As I face each sunrise new
Let me tell someone of you.

Help me to show them Calvary
That they too can be set free.

No, I'm not worthy for this I see
That's why I'll always love that man from Galilee.
