The still small Voice
by Janet Riley

Do you ever feel that you spend 99% of your life learning lessons, and only 1% on the success side? I feel that way quite often. What can be really enlightening is when God repeats the message and the lesson when we did not get it the first time.

God wants us to listen, to hear His voice, and take His advice. Times when I do not take His advice are when I am in a bad mood and/or decide to be logical and think my way, not Gods way.

Case in point: I do not like grocery shopping, In fact, I have my groceries delivered so i do not have to go to the grocery store. I get on the computer and order them over the internet.

But this was not always possible, and back in the 1980's it was before personal computers and the internet. I was in the grocery store, and I was in a bad mood because I was in the grocery store. I really did not want to be there. I was single at the time, and I was picking up a carton of 2% milk for myself. The still small voice inside me said, pick up an extra carton of 2% milk. I decided to be logical and ignore that. Why did I need an extra carton of milk?

I got home from the store, and the phone rang. It was a friend of mine in the church, and she fold me she was sick with the flu. Would I please go to the store and get her some 2% milk? So guess who had to go back to the grocery store? If I had listened to that still small Voice, I could have saved myself the trip.

Fast forward about ten years. I was married and living in Ohio, and there was a bad blizzard coming. I was getting ready to take the bus home from work and the still small Voice wanted me to wait ten minutes and catch the next bus. I decided to be logical and ignore that advise. I wanted to get home now before the snow hit.

The bus I was on broke down. The bus that went by us later was full of people and did not have any room to pick us up. The bus that went by was the one that ran ten minutes later. I finally got home in an hour and a half, and my husband had to wait for me in the parking lot in our car in a blizzard.

After that incident, I finally got better at listening to the advice of that still small Voice.
