PROVOKED

Love is not easily provoked. Being provoked means to become angry easily. Usually when someone says something we don't like, we become angry at them or tattle tale. Sometimes people are only joking with us and we become easily upset, or sometimes people have accidents but we don't forgive them, instead we become angry. We may even hurt them or say mean words to pay them back. Love does not behave like this. When someone does something that upsets us, we should walk away or kindly ask them to stop. If it is an accident, we should be quick to forgive them. We should never respond in a bad way.

Discuss:

1) Connor was bouncing a ball on the playground. It accidently bounced and hit CJ on the head. Connor said he was sorry and that it was accident. CJ wasn't hurt but he was mad so he ran to tell the teacher so Conner would get in trouble.

CJ wasn't hurt by the ball, what would have been a better way for CJ to respond?

2) Emily and her brother Peter were playing a card game. Peter accidently dropped the deck of cards on the floor. They splattered everywhere. Emily got angry and yelled at her brother for messing up the game.

What could Emily have done instead of yelling at her brother?

Reflect:

Things happen to us by others that sometimes are accidents but other times could be on purpose. Either way, we should not become angry. CJ knew Connor accidently hit him with the ball but he still became mad and tattled. He really just wanted to get Connor in trouble. When Peter accidently dropped the deck of cards, his sister became angry and yelled at him. She did not show love to her brother. Helping him pick up the cards would have been the better response.

What things make your angry easily? What is the best way to respond next time you feel anger about something?
