Whatever!
by PamFord Davis

"Whatever!" The response is usually a cynical sarcastic remark. As a brush-off or lack of interest, the one speaking gets their point across with two succinct syllables. Whatever you say, whatever you choose, whatever you decide, I'll accept it.

Mary, guest at a wedding gave insightful instructions; do "whatever" Jesus commands. "His mother said to the servants, 'Whatever He says to you, do it (John 2:5 NKJ)." The key to that whatever was obedience.

"Jesus said to them, 'Fill the waterpots with water.' And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, 'Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.' And they took it (John 2:7-8 KJV)."

Whatever? In obedience to Jesus, household servants filled and toted waterpots. I believe if Jesus had asked them to jump while carrying waterpots filled to the brim, in subservience, those called upon would have responded "How high?" I'm learning lessons of "whatever" faithfulness.
