Creation Sings
by lynda ventura

A painter picks up his palette and on a clean white canvas, begins to express his vision of beauty. A dab of paint here, a smudge of color there, in the end, a masterpiece. At least some people will call it that, others will not. It all depends on the one who is beholding the art. But when God, our Father, gets creative He creates beauty that is more than beautiful. His idea of beauty is breathtaking, inspiring, and awesome. No one can deny it.
We used to live on a street that ran upward from a bay in a small New England town. For all practical purposes, the bay was our front yard. I can't tell you how many times I would look outside and be in total awe at God's glory in the sunsets that were commonplace in that particular part of town. I use this scripture to describe it. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world." Psalm 19:1-4
Something happens when you understand that nature itself testifies to God's glory. There is not a spoken word that conveys His glory quite like His creation. It is plain. It is clear. Its voice is as loud as anyone cares to hear.
With all the crazy things that happen in this life, sometimes it's good to sit back and just enjoy the earth that God has given us. Don't think on the big stuff for a while. That's God's job. God's word says, "Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with too great matters, nor things too profound for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever." Psalm 131:1-3 Relax! Granted, it can be hard to do at times. But try by taking a walk and noticing everything God created. He perfectly designed every flower, every tree, and every bird that sings for your pleasure and to His glory. Bask in the artistic expression of His love and care for you. Let Him calm your mind and minister to your heart through the beauty of the world around you.
