Reciprocal Action
by PamFord Davis

"Now what can I do for you?" Someone does us a big favor and we feel obligated to offer reciprocal action. It was not a small gesture; the person went out of their way, bent over backwards to provide an act of kindness. We feel a tinge of guilt because we did not pay for their services or deserve it. How can I ever repay the Lord?

"What shall I render to the LORD for all his bounty to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD (Psalms 16:12-13 RSV). The psalmist is reflecting and resolved. "I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and call on the name of the LORD (Psalm 11:17 RSV)." We can never repay the LORD; we can call on him with thankful hearts.
