Burning Questions
by Susan Gurney

What were you thinking about, Moses,
As you grazed your father-in-law's flocks
That day of the burning questions?

Perhaps you were full of thoughts--
Wife, sons, job--the responsibilities of today--
The present, burning issues of life.

Or, perhaps, your thoughts went farther afield--
To other people, places, problems, in another time--
The searing regrets of the past.

Whatever your thoughts, I'm sure they were forgotten,
When a bush spoke with the voice of God
The burning commands that could not be excused away.

When you questioned His wisdom--though perfect,
And His Power--though it be total and complete--
He withered all questions with the heat of His rage.

"'I AM' is the answer to all your burning questions--I am the 'I AM'!
Now go do what I want, the only thing that really matters!"
After that, past and present concerns must not have flamed so bright...
