GREATER THAN MINE
by Lewis E. Thomas

I saw a lady in a wheel chair on my way to work today
Her legs were twisted and crooked in an awkward way!

God moved on me to write this poem and this rhyme
Because this poor woman's burden was greater than mine!

I watched her lean down to drink from a straw in her cup
Her hands could not grasp it to lift it up!

She had something seriously wrong with her spine
She had to endure a burden greater than mine!

I felt a tightening in my chest as I viewed the scene
Life has been to her so very cruel and mean!

Next time you want to grumble and complain
Think about this poor lady and her daily pain!

Give glory to God and thank Him that your able to walk!
Thank Him for arms that work and a mouth that talks!

Thank God that your able to read this rhyme!
Lest God give you a burden greater than mine!
