Dispelled Discouragement
by PamFord Davis

Check out the correct spelling of discouragement. When it seems like we have not an ounce of courage to face our challenges, courage securely rests at the center of discouragement. What does the problem stem from? Both people and circumstances lead to firmly rooted discouragement. As troublesome weeds in our gardens, we most effectively remove discouragement when killed at the roots. Only courage will remain.

God encouraged Joshua; He dispelled discouragement. "Be strong and of good courage; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them (Joshua 1:6 RSV)." The Lord offered additional encouragement. "be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9b RSV)." We make daily choices to either cave in to discouragement or dispel it through faith in our sovereign God.
