Keep a Perfect Score
by PamFord Davis "Can you keep a secret?" The listener waits with bated breath. What juicy piece of information is the speaker about to reveal? Nodding, they know it will be much easier to spread the secret than to suppress it. "Can you keep a promise?" The listener averts eye contact. What favor is the speaker about to request? Shrugging shoulders, they know their past record of broken promises is not easy to explain. I want to be a promise keeper. "He must keep his promises to his neighbor, even when it hurts (Psalm 15:4 NCV)." Keeping my promises is no easier than keeping secrets. I can try to justify my failures or attempt to weasel out of promises I have made. Instead, I can admit my mishaps and ask for assistance in self-control and faithfulness. (Galatians 5:22) Can I keep a perfect score? No, but I serve one who does.
