OVERCOMING THE ENEMY BY FORTIFYING YOUR WEAKNESSES
by Anthony Osei Boateng

We fight an enemy who has dedicated his time to studying us to discover all our weaknesses and short-falls. He neither rests nor sleeps but is always bent on causing us to fall in our Christian lives. The Bible says in John 10:10 that "the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. In line with this; the sole aim of the enemy is to destroy us by trying to lure us through our weaknesses.

As long as we are alive and living in the flesh, we are prone to the desires of our flesh and our weaknesses. Many Christians fail in this battle because they try to match the enemy boot for boot; and aspire to defeat the enemy using the same physical flesh which is laden or filled with weaknesses and shortfalls. The enemy never tempts us with things which we don't like, but with those things which we like and need. When Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights and was obviously hungry, the devil based on this hunger to test Him by asking Him to turn stones into bread. People may see this as trivial; but after fasting forty days and nights, the devil knew that Jesus would be hungry at that time and hence tried to tempt Him to turn stone into bread.

Jesus did not argue with the devil, but He decided to tap into the Word! which is His God-personality which had no weakness or blemish. John 1 states: in the beginning was the Word and the word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus Himself is the Word. By replying the devil with scripture, Jesus took this whole issue to a new level altogether; which is also a level the devil is not comfortable with. We overcome the enemy and fortify our weaknesses when we respond to his temptations with the Word of God. Rev 12:11 states "they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony". We should never go into the boxing ring with the enemy physically but rather throw scripture at him and he will run away.

2Cor. 10:4 states: for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Bearing this in mind, Christians should ask the Holy Spirit to deal with them concerning their weaknesses and loop-holes for attack by the enemy. We should also have at our finger tips, Bible verses which admonish us with regards to our weaknesses. The last ingredient which we cannot do without in fortifying our weaknesses is prayer. Luke 22:40 states: pray that ye enter not into temptation. The Holy Spirit led Jesus in all that He did; and with His guidance and counsel we shall do exploits and lead the life worthy of a sanctified child of God. May God help us to eliminate and fortify each and every weak area of our lives in Jesus' Name Amen!
