THE HAND OF GOD
by Lewis E. Thomas

I befriended an old woman at a Nursing Home Facility
Though she was 96 years old she still had great ability!

Her mind was still as sharp as a tack!
She had a memory of the past that was soundly intact.

I often talked with her about things she had on her mind
I enjoyed hearing this wise and gentle old lady unwind!

She complained of being bored with nothing to do!
Her options for entertainment at the facility were very few!

She told me one day that only one thing kept her going!
What would that be I asked with no way of knowing.

She smiled and said, "You are the HIGH POINT of my day!"
"You are the answer to a prayer that I used to pray."

She said, "I asked God to send me someone to talk to!"
She said,"God answered my prayer when He sent you!"

I did not realize that simply sharing of my time
Would mean so much to the old woman in this rhyme!

Remember Matthew 25:45 on that path you trod!
And look for ways to be used as "The Hand of God!"

Matthew 25: 41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
