MAMA'S HANDS
by Lewis E. Thomas

Mama passed away from my world in her sleep
I looked at her lifeless hands and that made me weep!

You see Mama's hands were always active and full of life!
Mama was a fantastic Mother and my Father's loyal wife.

Mama's hands were always working and always giving!
Mama's hands were never idle while she was living!

Mama's hands got me ready for school and prepared my lunch!
Mama's hands prepared birthday parties with cake and punch.

Mama's hands held me close when I would cry and weep!
Mama's hands caressed my cheeks softly as I would sleep.

Mama's hands held mine as I lay sick upon my bed
Mama's hands made sure that our whole family was fed!

Mama's hands shaped and molded me into a good man!
Mama taught me about Jesus, The Rock on which I stand.

Mama's hands are resting now from their hard labor!
Mama's hands can no longer reach out to her neighbor.

Mama's hands were never her hands on that path she trod
Mama's hands were always "The Hands of God"!
